Mercado de La Ribera (Bilbao)

Located in the heart of the historic Casco Viejo in Bilbao, the Mercado de la Ribera is a massive 10,000-square-meter Art Deco landmark on the banks of the Nervión river. It holds the Guinness World Record (1990) for being the most complete municipal food market, and remains one of the largest covered markets in Europe. Despite its sprawling, open floor plan, the 1929 Art Deco structure by architect Pedro Ispizua has absolutely no internal supporting columns.
