Torre Hercules (A Coruña)

Description

The Torre Hercules or Tower of Hercules in A Coruña is the oldest operating Roman lighthouse in the world. Standing at 55 meters, it has been continuously guiding sailors through the treacherous Atlantic coast for nearly 2,000 years, and was officially designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009. One fun fact: Because of its historic status and role as a beacon of safety for travelers, the Tower was officially "twinned" with the Statue of Liberty in New York in 2008.
