The Grassmarket (Edinburgh)

Description

The Grassmarket in Edinburgh is a historic market area dating back to the 14th century. In 1477, it became the city's primary livestock market, with animals grazing at one end and trade happening at the other, creating its name. The structure in this picture is the West Bow Well at one end of the Grassmarket near the start of West Bow Street. This was historically part of Edinburgh’s old public water system and has undergone restorations to maintain its presence in this area.
