West Bow Street (Edinburgh)

Description

West Bow, a historic, steeply winding street in Edinburgh connecting the Grassmarket to Castlehill, is famously considered a major inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series. It was historically known for being the "wizard's" street, home to the infamous 17th-century alleged sorcerer Major Thomas Weir, who confessed to witchcraft and satanism, earning him the nickname "The Wizard of West Bow" before his execution.
