Puerta de Alcalá (Madrid)

Description

The Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid is Europe's first triumphal arch built after the fall of the Roman Empire, predating Paris's Arc de Triomphe. Inaugurated in 1778, it features different designs on each side because King Charles III couldn't decide on a single proposal.
