Plaza Mayor & Clock Tower (Chinchon)

Description

A popular local saying in Chinchón is: "Chinchón has a tower without a church and a church without a tower". The tower you see here is the Clock Tower (Torre del Reloj), which is the only remnant of the 14th-century Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia, destroyed by French troops in 1808. Famous for being a "tower without a church," it stands opposite the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (seen in the other photo), which is known as a "church without a tower".
