Leadenhall Market (London)

Description

Leadenhall Market is one of London’s oldest markets dating back to 1321 as a poultry and meat market. Situated on the site of a 1st-century Roman forum and basilica, it was rebuilt in 1881 as a Victorian arcade with ornate roof structures designed by Sir Horace Jones. The market is linked to the story of a 19th-century goose named Old Tom, who famously escaped being slaughtered, became a local celebrity, and was buried in the market.
