Description

A popular local saying in Chinchón is: "Chinchón has a tower without a church and a church without a tower". The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is that "church without a tower". In the foreground is the irregularly shaped Plaza Mayor with its distinctive green balconies known as "claros", The square has hosted bullfights since at least 1502, held in honor of King Philip the Handsome. It was officially recognized as a Real Coso Taurino (Royal Bullring) by Philip V.
