Bibi Ka Maqbara (Aurangabad)

Description

Bibi Ka Maqbara is famous for being a replica of the Taj Mahal - built by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb for his wife. Dikras Banu Begum. The main architect, Ata-ullah, was the son of Ustad Ahmed Lahori, the chief architect of the Taj Mahal. Given Aurangzeb's austere lifestyle, it was commissioned by his son, Prince Azam Shah under budget constraints forcing cost saving measures (like use of less marble). Therefore it is also variously referred to as "Taj of the Deccan" or "Poor Man's Taj"
