Description

The iconic, brightly colored, enclosed wooden balconies (like the blue one in this photo) are called gallariji, which evolved from Arab muxarabiya screens to provide privacy and ventilation, allowing women to observe street life while remaining hidden. It later became symbols of status and national identity, adorned in various hues.
