Palacio de Velázquez in Buen Retiro (Madrid)
Description
The Palacio de Velázquez in Madrid's Retiro Park is named after its architect, Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, not the famous painter Diego Velázquez. It was originally called the "Palacio de Minería" (Mining Palace) because of its original purpose to showcase innovations in mining, ceramics, and glass at the 1883 National Exhibition. Inspired by London's Crystal Palace, it uses a beautiful combination of red brick and vibrant tiles (azulejos), as seen in this photo.
