Tower of David (Jerusalem)

Description

The most prominent and oldest remaining parts of the citadel, including the massive base of the main tower, were actually built by King Herod the Great in the 1st century BCE, nearly a millennium after King David's time. The tall, slender minaret (prayer tower) that is the most visible part of the citadel today was built by the Ottomans in the 17th century.
