The Plaza of Many Names (Madrid)

The Plaza Mayor was originially baptized as Plaza del Arrabal and throughout its existence it has received other designations such as Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza Real, Plaza de la República, Plaza de la República Federal, Plaza de la República Democrática Federal or Plaza de Calvo Sotelo. It was only in 1940 (at the start of General Franco's dictatorship) that it was named as such.
